In 1958 Douglas Jackson who had been born and raised in Cedar City, Utah and had been previously employed in the building construction business, the propane gas business, and who at the time was working as the assistant director of plant operations and facility maintenance at the College of Southern Utah decided to open his own business, he called his new business “Doug’s Plumbing & Heating.”
Doug was no stranger to the building construction industry, and had grown up around the building business as his father Frank Jackson had been a building contractor and a real estate developer for years in the Cedar City area and had built many homes, buildings, and developed subdivisions that are still standing in the area today .
Doug had worked for La France gas company and installed gas lines & gas appliances all over Southern Utah, Lincoln County Nevada, and the Arizona Strip. While employed at the local college Doug had supervised all maintenance on the college campus including the installation & service of all plumbing systems, and the central steam boiler heating plant, so the transition to his own Plumbing company was a natural step for him.
In the early to mid 1970’s Doug’s son Terry who had grown up around the Plumbing business but who had left the business for a time to attend college and work for R.S. Hannah Corporation, made the decision to return to Cedar City and join Doug in the family Plumbing business.
When Terry joined the business the company name was changed to “Jackson Plumbing Heating & Solar” and the company added the installation of solar hot water heaters to the line of plumbing services provided.
In 1987 when Doug decided it was time to retire, Terry bought him out and the company name was changed to “Jackson Plumbing & Heating Inc.”
Over the years the Jackson family has provided the Cedar City and Southern Utah area with a full range of Plumbing & Heating services, from simple plumbing repairs & drain cleaning to new construction. In the 1990’s a Plumbing service franchise Called Mr. Rooter was added to the services provided by Jackson Plumbing, but was later dropped although Plumbing service & drain cleaning were continued by the company.
Over the years Jackson Plumbing has been involved with many noteworthy building construction projects, and has plumbed many homes, business and commercial projects in the area.
Some examples of a few of the more note worthy projects that Jackson Plumbing has been involved with are jobs, such as the Presidents home on the Southern Utah University Campus, the Town & Country Motel, and the Gen Pak & Longview Fiber factory’s on highway 56 west of town, plus many residential homes, business buildings, and mountain cabins all over Cedar Mountain.
We take pride in our work and have the satisfaction of knowing that we have made an important contribution to the community, we have employed many individuals over the years, and now find that many of our competitors are former employees of our company.
